If you are visiting Miskolctapolca with your family, we think a trip to Miskolc Zoo is definitely worth planning in advance. We visit often ourselves, and it is always a firm favourite with our family.
Perhaps one of the reasons we like it so much is that a visit is about more than simply walking from one enclosure to the next. Thanks to the zoo’s wooded setting, you can enjoy a good walk at the same time, while the children decide where you stop for just two minutes — and where it becomes almost impossible to get them to move on. Our photos were taken during one of these visits.
Bears, Goats and Plenty More Stops
One of the best things about Miskolc Zoo is the variety of animals you encounter along the way. Of course, our children always have their current favourites whenever we visit.
We usually spend a little longer at the petting zoo, but seeing an animal the children have previously only known from books or stories can be just as exciting. And of course, there are times when we adults would happily stay and look around a little longer, while the children have already moved on to the next enclosure.
That is exactly why we would not try to fit too many other activities into the same day. It is worth allowing at least half a day for the visit, especially with younger children.
Easy to fit into a stay in Miskolctapolca
If you are staying with us for several days, the zoo can be a great choice for a morning or afternoon when you are not planning to visit the baths.
Guests staying at Kikelet also enjoy an extra benefit: hotel guests can purchase tickets to Miskolc Zoo at reception with a 15% discount. So be sure to ask us about discounted tickets before heading out.
If you happen to be visiting on 28 August…
There is also another reason why this recommendation is especially timely: Zoo Night will take place on 28 August 2026. Miskolc Zoo will be hosting special programmes that evening, so if you are staying in Miskolctapolca around that time, it may be worth planning your visit for that day. Before you go, we recommend checking the detailed programme on Miskolc Zoo’s official website.
But even if you are not visiting on 28 August, it is still well worth a trip. A regular day at the zoo is more than enough reason to include it on your list of family-friendly things to do in Miskolc.
