The Lillafüred Palace Hotel was built between 1925 and 1929 next to Lake Hámori in the neo-Renaissance style. Lillafüred was named after Béla Vay's daughter, Erzsébet – nicknamed Lilla.
The area was already a popular hiking and holiday destination before this. When the Palace Hotel was built, the Szinva waterfall and the entrance to the Anna Cave were relocated. The writers' congress was also held here in 1933, which gave rise to Attila József's poem "Óda". The film "Meseautó", released in 1934 and still popular today, is partly set in the Palace Hotel.
