In one of the country's most beautiful and varied regions, in the western part of the Bükk area – among the mountains – the Lillafüred narrow-gauge railway rattles along, setting off from Dorottya Street in Miskolc. Its most popular stop is the fabulously beautiful Lillafüred, where its station is located near the Palace Hotel and the Hanging Garden. Its terminus is Garadna, a popular resting place and starting point for excursions.
The Lillafüred Trout Farm and the Fazola-kohó can also be reached by the buses. The former from the Közép-Garadna stop, the latter from the Fazola-kohó stop.
The narrow-gauge railway was originally built to transport freight; passenger transport only appeared later. The first passenger car was put into service from 1923.
Over the course of the narrow-gauge railway's nearly century-long history, it had several branch lines that have since been closed, e.g. the Tatárárok branch, the Kerekhegy branch, the Ládi branch and the Tardona branch. Of the former branch lines, only the Mahóca line has survived, on which excursion trains are still run on special occasions today.
The address of the starting station: 3534 Miskolc, Dorottya St.
