Diósgyőr Castle is set in beautiful natural surroundings. The magnificent Gothic royal castle, with its four corner towers and Central Europe's largest knights' hall, was the country's finest and most splendid fortress. After the death of King Louis, Diósgyőr was thereafter the estate of the queens, and was also the residence given as a wedding gift to six queens – among them Beatrix, the wife of Matthias. Apart from a few castle walls, it has been largely rebuilt, and not only the renewed Diósgyőr Castle but also the gate of the medieval fortress has been opened to visitors.
